Errgh, I’m sick. Again! I’ve been sick more often than well since Autumn started and I’m well and truly over it… so my latest super smoothie – Green Berry Bang is an attempt to turn a corner.
I loaded up at the markets with beautiful fresh Kale and Ginger – produce well known for their abundance in flu fighting nutritional ammunition such as vitamin C, iron and high in antioxidants. In addition the high levels of iron in kale will do wonders for my energy levels!
I was all prepared to make a green smoothie but my husband Tim doesn’t fancy them too much, he’s more of a fruit man, so I mixed the best of both worlds – flu fighting for me, and fruity for him. Hence the crazy colour of the smoothie – but don’t be dismayed because the taste is fantastic!
Throw it all in a blender and whizz it up!
- Handful of ice
- 1 cup of fresh strawberries
- 1 cup frozen raspberries
- 1 cup fresh Kale (firmly packed)
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tsp MACA powder *
- Grated ginger to taste*
*MACA powder is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to support energy, immunity and mood, perfect to try and beat off this latest illness. It also has a reputation for boosting libido… But if you’re not interested in any of that then take it out!
**I’m not a massive fan of ginger unless it is in hot meals. I don’t overly love it in baking or smoothies but I’ve added it in because it is known to boost immunity and contain anti-inflammatory properties (which I clearly need!) It can be a bit tangy in smoothies so I just did it to taste, although a little bit more than I normally would because I’m sick of being sick!
